It is with great sadness that I announce I will not be running for Mayor of O'Fallon. This decision came as a result of an outside employment disclosure form that must be filled out as part of my employment at MasterCard. To assure everyone that this was not a political stunt used to keep my name in the mix until the last minute I will run through a brief timeline of events. In early December I submitted the form to MasterCard Legal Council announcing my intent to run. Because of the holidays the form was not acted upon until the first week of January. At that time a meeting was set for the second week in January with all levels of management from my direct manager to the CIO of Mastercard in addition to several executive level HR individuals. This meeting took place the second week in January. During this meeting we came to the decision that with MasterCard GTO based in O'Fallon, along with CitiGroup (a major customer of MasterCard), we were concerned that this would results in either an actual or perceived conflict of interest at some point in the future. Based on this we decided that it was not in the best interest of MasterCard, myself or the City O'Fallon to run for the position of Mayor. I am sorry I was not able to announce this immediately but I felt it only fair to call anyone I had spoken to personally about this possibility before I announced it here.
I was overwhelmed by the support I received as this news spread and I want to thank everyone who either vocally or quietly supported me. This decision does not affect my position as Councilman. I had to fill out the same form last year before running for Councilman, and it was approved. So I will continue to serve the Citizens of O'Fallon, and specifically Ward 3, as their Councilman.
The next question you may have, as it was asked by every person I informed of this, is "Who am I going to support?". At this time I honestly don't know. There are 3 individuals that have filed to run for Mayor, and all were mentioned long before they filed. At different times over the past year I have felt that I was going to vote for each of them, all for different reasons. Since I am not running for Mayor I do not anticipate coming out publicly in support of a candidate but if you would like to speak with me about the choices, feel free to give me at call at 314-574-4208. Beware, if you call now you will get a long winded answer that ends with "so I don't know what to do yet". So you may want to give me some time.
